Pets, Kids, and a Beautiful Home
Life is too short to wait years (often decades!) to enjoy your home.
I understand your reservations but you might not be aware that the design industry has advanced leaps and bounds in the past 10 years. There are endless pet and family-friendly materials out there and you would never guess that these performance-grade fabrics and rugs are indestructible, bleach-cleanable, impenetrable, and scratch-resistant.
Some people dream of a white sofa. You can have that. Extremely soft and luxurious fabrics? Yes, you can have that too. Imagine coming home to a sanctuary where you get to leave the world behind and just relax.
Other people want to have the hang-out house where everyone wants to gather and have fun! Let's create a house with some style and edge!
If you fall in love with a material that is not "performance-grade" that's ok too. I recommend that everyone take protective measures and have a stain-prevention treatment applied to all rugs and upholstery.
People with balance issues or weak muscles should not use a bathtub. Stepping into a tub can be difficult and a freestanding tub is a trip-hazard. Instead, a curb-less walk-in shower with a hand-shower wand and a fold-down bench is ideal.
Grab bars around the shower and toilet are a must-have. Talk to your loved one about whether they prefer to pull up with vertical or horizontal grab bars, and figure out the ideal height to install them before making assumptions. Choose non-slip floor tile, especially in the shower; and consider avoiding decorative rugs as they can be a trip-hazard.
So many of my clients wish they had made updates long before they finally did. Reach out to me for some ideas, a refresh, or a full overhaul.
Because, who wants to live with stained rugs and flattened sofa pillows?
